 Mount Kenya Trekking

Mount Kenya Trekking,. More info
Although most famous for its game-rich national parks, Kenya boasts a key draw for trekkers too: Mount Kenya (5199m). This three million year old extinct volcano is the highest mountain in Kenya and second-highest (after Kilimanjaro) in Africa. It lies just south of the equator but was once completely covered by a thick ice cap which remained for thousands of years. When most of it melted at the end of the last ice age, the slopes were exposed to a large amount of erosion which helped form many classic U-shaped valleys and large areas of screed. The rough terrain and height of the mountain mean that it is one that serious trekkers just have to ‘bag’.

Kenya luxury lodge safaris
Kenya is the land of African superlatives. From the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya, to flamingo ringed soda lakes and the Indian Ocean coast, rolling savannah, vibrant tribes, shimmering desert and big-game wildlife, it simply has no match. This is where the concept of the safari was born. Kenya safaris offer an incredible diversity of landscapes and some of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the world. This is where elephant mingle with vast herds of zebra, wildebeest and buffalo, while leopard, cheetah and lion thrive. Blessed with a huge array of activities – from ballooning and horse-riding to bush-walking, camel trekking and vintage biplane excursions – Kenya will always be a fabulous safari destination.

The simplest geographical division in Kenya is between the Indian Ocean coast and the highland interior – or ‘up-country’ as Kenyans often call it. The two are different worlds, separated by south-east Kenya’s vast plains of dry bush and scrub. Once you start exploring the country, you’ll find it divides into numerous regions, in many of which we can offer safaris

The balloon's lift comes from hot air which is slightly lighter than the surrounding cold atmosphere. The hotter the balloon the faster it rises. As the balloon cools it slowly descends. The pilot can control the balloon to brush the grass or the tops of trees, yet could if he wished, go as high as 15,000 feet. However, the flying in the Mara is kept more down to earth.
The balloons are not flown in winds greater than 15 mph (30kph) so the calm African mornings are the perfect time for our flights. The balloons must go where the winds take them but, as winds at varying heights often have varying directions, the pilot can choose his height and hence his direction.

Tanzania Safari Tours | Mount Kilimanjaro trekking
To experience the best of what Tanzania has to offer, walk wild Kenya Safaris  has selected these Tanzania and Kenya safari options ranging from accommodation in luxury safari lodges to camping out on mobile safaris where you cover a large section of the country by vehicle - to feature Tanzania safari activities to suit every taste.
Kilimanjaro and some of the most famous savannah game lands in the world at Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Ngorongoro, Tanzania has plenty to offer to walkers and trekkers.
At 5895 metres Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa and also the highest free-standing mountain in the world. For many trekkers the lure to conquer Kilimanjaro is irresistible: the terrain and vegetation on the ascent is varied, with dense forest giving way to open meadows and finally to the rocky summit slopes. There are six official trekking routes up Kilimanjaro.
The Marangu Route is the busiest and fastest way up the mountain, but more rewarding and slower routes (with safer rates of ascent) include the Lemosho Route, said to be the quietest, safest and most beautiful path to the summit, and the Rongai Route, also relatively un-trodden and believed to be the easiest of all the ascents. From the rocky summit at Uhuru Peak the views over the surrounding plains are simply breathtaking: on a clear day it’s even possible to see the curvature of the Earth
